The JCI Tartan Project
The Junior Chamber Aberdeen project team began their work by delving into JCI's history book, Men Of Vision, in which two Scottish names feature prominently, in the form of Taylor and Graham. In 1943, Jaycees J. Allyn Taylor of Canada and Vance Graham of USA undertook a tour of Mexico, Guatemala, San Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, where they were able to establish an international movement of Junior Chambers within these countries. The following year, thanks to Graham and Taylor, these inaugural chambers took part in the first Inter-American Conference in Mexico City, which was to lay the foundation for Junior Chamber International. The JCI tartan design is based on both the Taylor & Graham Clan tartans. The JCI corporate blue is linked by gold to commemorate our 50th Anniversary. The design was endorsed by General Assembly in Kobe, Japan and was then registered with the Scottish Tartan Society as the "Junior Chamber International Tartan".It is unique to our organisation, with members past and present eligible to wear it as their own. The JCI tartan was officially launched at the 1995 World Congress in Glasgow. We hope you like the tartan as much as we do and remember 'Wear It With Pride' |
